There are several bills in the legislature this spring relevant to young farmers, such as tenancy rules on pastures smaller than 40 acres and funding for Beginning Farmer programs. Cordray is a member of the 2013 Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program (YCLP). The program is organized by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association to develop leadership qualities in young cattle producers.

Kevin Cordray of Nevada is a member the Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program, a program designed to develop leadership qualities in young producers. Cordray, the only participant from Story County, joins 22 other young cattle producers from around the state who are part of the program.

Throughout the year, the young producers will take part in activities that include lobbying at the state capitol; leadership skills development; learning more about the ICA, the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation and the Iowa Beef Industry Council; planning the 2014 ICA Carcass Challenge; and learning more about beef industry issues from news makers.

YCLP is sponsored by ICA with funding provided by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation and members of the ICA President’s Council.
