The removal of the railroad bridge on Highway 65, south of Collins, began May 5.
A reinforced box culvert will be constructed in its place to facilitate use of the recreational trail, according to the DOT website. The $2.3 million project will reduce maintenance costs for the deteriorating bridge and will hopefully still provide safe access between the two areas of the recreation complex.
Highway along the west side of the town was removed in preparation for the grading that will be necessary. Traffic is expected to be detoured via Interstate 35 and Highway 210 through Maxwell. The project is expected to disrupt traffic until October.
