Fundraiser will support rescue dogs in need of homes

A fundraiser garage sale will be held for Midwest Canine on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Sports Bowl parking lot, 1229 12th St., Nevada.

Midwest Canine started in 2013 and has rescued more than 30 dogs, as well as other creatures, from euthanasia, high kill shelters and owner-surrenders following a death.

The organization currently has 17 dogs - puppies through senior dogs - that need forever homes and foster homes. Rescued dogs are fostered by loving families prior to their adoption into a permanent home. The foster situation helps prepare them to re-enter a loving environment.

Tracy Gibson of Nevada, who is helping to organize the Midwest Canine fundraiser in Nevada, said special thanks go out to Mindy Tillotson of Sports Bowl for donating the parking lot space and tents for the sale, along with using her creative talent to prepare flyers for the event. Also to be thanked is Mary Vanderwal from Van’s Grooming in Nevada, for helping with grooming and nail trims for the foster dogs. Thanks, too, to Dr. Rizzo at Pet Medical Center in Ames for reduced-cost spaying and neutering.

The garage sale fundraiser will start at 8 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. Foster dogs needing forever homes will be at the fundraiser. Donations for the garage sale (accepting anything except clothing) can be made by calling Tracy at 515-520-7748 or Teresa at 515-460-3638. Donations are being accepted at this time.
