I have noticed the stop light at the corner of Sixth Street and Lincoln Way can be difficult to see at times, especially since it does not hang over the roadway like many stop lights. Has the city considered replacing the stop light with new LED lights that would be brighter and safer? It would also have the added benefit of lower utility costs to operate the light.
Answer: (Given by Elizabeth Hansen, city administrator) The city has stocked all remaining parts for the lights at Sixth and Lincoln Highway that are no longer available. That means all four signals will need to be replaced in the near future. The city has identified a downtown renovation or revitalization project, which is included in the city’s five-year capital improvement plans. The traffic signals are planned to be replaced at that time. Therefore, staff and the city’s engineer do not recommend any upgrades at this time.
