Journalist and small business owner Lauris Olson has filed her campaign notice for the 2014 Story County Supervisors race with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure board. She intends to run as an independent voter not affiliated with any party.
Lauris lives in Ames with her husband, Kerry Whisnant, a physics professor at Iowa State University. She owns Iowa News Online, publisher of the Ames Bulletin Board, a community magazine and the former AmesNewsOnline.com. A long-time journalist, she has spent the last 11 years covering Ames and Story County.
Olson launched an 11th hour challenge to veteran Story County Supervisor Wayne Clinton as he sought a fourth term in 2012. Although unsuccessful in her bid, Olson said she was encouraged by the fact that she received almost 10,000 (9,970) votes in a race where 15,500 of the 36,000 voters cast straight-party votes for either the Democratic, Republican or Libertarian tickets.
Two of the three Story County Supervisor seats will be on the Nov. 4, 2014 ballot.
Olson is in the process of updating her website, LaurisOlson.com, and setting up a new Facebook page, Lauris Olson for Story County Supervisor. Her campaign email is firstname.lastname@example.org. She may be called at 515-451-7293.
