League of Women to hold forum on proposed convention center

Do you want more information about the proposed convention center before the vote on March 4? The League of Women Voters of Ames is hosting an informational forum Monday, Feb. 24, 7-8:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers, Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave.

Among the topics to be addressed are the projected increases in business and economic benefits to Ames, costs of building and operation, initial and ongoing funding and impacts to the city budget. Presenters include Steve Schainker, Ames city manager; Julie Weeks, director, Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau; Warren Madden, senior vice president for business and finance at Iowa State University; Dave Swenson, associate scientist, Department of Economics at ISU. Questions of clarification will be accepted from the audience. The forum may be viewed on the Ames Government Access Television Channel 12. The LWV takes no position on the convention center; its interest is in promoting an informed electorate.
