Local Taekwondo students excel at District Championships

Senior Master Larry Edel & Mrs. Amy Edel attended this year’s American Taekwondo Association (ATA) District Championship Tournament on May 31in Lakeville, Minnesota. It was an exciting day full of action, and cheering winners on to victory.

The North District Tournament consists of top-state-competitors from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. This allows all the competitors to compete head to head for this year’s title “District Champion”. Senior Master Edel had 3 students compete this year with the other top competitors.

Jalen Lancaster (son of Troy & Sarah Lancaster) competed in the boys ages 9, 10 and 11, 2nd and 3rd Degree Black Belt division. Lancaster finished the competition with marks of Competitive in Taekwondo Form, Competitive in Weapon Form, 3rd in Sparring, and 3rd in Combat Sparring.

Benjamin Rima (son of Marcia & Neil Rima) competed in the boys ages 9, 10 and 11 Color Belt division. Rima finished the competition with scores of 2nd in Taekwondo Form, 1st in Weapon Form, District Champion in Sparring and District Champion and Competitive in Combat Sparring.

Payton Schiller (son of Brad & Jessi Schiller) competed in the boys ages 12, 13 & 14 Color Belt division. Schiller finished the competition with marks of Competitive in Sparring, and 1st in Combat Sparring, earning District Champion.

These and many more students train with Senior Master Edel at ATA Martial Arts in Nevada.
