Mary Greeley Medical Center has been named a “Most Wired” hospital in the 16th annual Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks. MGMC is one of only 11 Iowa hospitals named to this year’s list.
To be named a Most Wired hospital, Mary Greeley had to meet rigorous requirements in four information technology (IT) areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
Among the key strengths of the hospital’s IT program that helped earned Most Wired status:
• The security of the IT system and the hospital’s ability to restore critical systems within four hours of a disaster
• Computerized physician order entry rates, including system alerts for drug interaction and drug allergies, that exceed national standards
• Electronic documentation of patient health information, which enhances coordinated care by allowing multiple providers to see patient information at the same time
• MyChart, a patient portal now available to Mary Greeley patients, which allows patients to view health information and communicate electronically with their doctors
“Technology is an important tool in patient care, patient safety and patient engagement, and being named a Most Wired hospital shows that we are using this tool well,” says Brian Dieter, president and CEO of Mary Greeley.
