A fall benefit that was being planned for Harv Bainter has been cancelled, following Bainter’s death this past Saturday.
However, organizers of the benefit are still collecting financial contributions to help the family with medical expenses that have been incurred during Bainter’s recent hospitalizations.
Bainter, a much-loved soccer coach in the Nevada community who was instrumental in building a championship boys’ soccer program in the Nevada Schools, passed away Saturday at University of Iowa Medical Center, Iowa City.
Bainter, a 32-year employee of ALMACO in Nevada, became the head boys’ soccer coach in Nevada in 2000. In his eight years as head coach, his teams posted 130 wins, 29 losses and 7 ties. In his first year as head coach, his team won the state title and Bainter was named Division One Coach of the Year. His teams went on to other state tournament appearances. Last year Bainter was inducted in the Nevada High School Hall of Fame.
Memorial services have been planned for Sunday, Sept. 15, in the Nevada High School fieldhouse, beginning at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Harv Bainter Fund can be mailed in care of: State Bank & Trust, 1025 Sixth St., Nevada, Iowa 50201. For more information about contributing funds, call Cindy Grismore at 382-4827 or Carol Holstine at 382-6873.
Fund organizers comment: “Harv was always there for our kids and the community when we needed him, so let’s join together and show our appreciation and love for a man who gave so much.”
