Nevada alum receives prestigious University of Iowa award

Tippie College of Business alumni Tom Niblock of Washington, D.C. and Dana Ramundt of Des Moines have been named the University of Iowa business school’s inaugural alumni of the year.

Niblock, a 2007 Tippie graduate from Nevada, has been named recipient of the Young Alumnus Award for his work as a foreign service officer with the U.S. State Department. He currently serves in the Office of Taiwan Coordination in Washington, D.C., and previously served as the staff assistant to the ambassador at U.S. embassies in Beijing and Islamabad, Pakistan. He is also the author of “Tip of the Dragon’s Tongue: The Adventures of a Young American Diplomat in China.”

Niblock, the son of Jim Niblock and Karen Niblock, graduated from Nevada High School in 2003.

Ramundt, a 1974 graduate from Eldora, is president and CEO of The Dana Company, an independent insurance agency he founded in Des Moines in 1989. He has served the insurance industry as president of two county independent insurance agents’ associations and as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa, and most recently served on the board of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He also served 4 years as a board member of Project InVEST, a national program for the introduction of the insurance industry to high school and college students throughout the country.

At the university, he helped to establish the Emmett Vaughan Institute of Risk Management and Insurance and continues to serve on its advisory board.
