Nevada Middle School students earn honors at State History Day

Four Nevada Middle School eighth-graders earned honors at State History Day competition held on May 5 at the State Historical Society Building in Des Moines.

Kyle Bauman, Preston Cattanach, Matt Chitty and Brendan Sellberg were among six project finalists for their website “1966 Texas Western Basketball Team: Breaking Down Barriers in College Hoops.” The group also received the History of Sports Award for their website, which is available online at http://45047972.nhd.weebly.com.

More than 375 students from 59 school districts participated in this year’s State History Day after qualifying at several District History Day contests held throughout the state in March and April.
