NHS student honored by Governor

Tiffany Latshaw, a student at Nevada High School, was recognized by Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds for outstanding academic achievement at the 11th annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony April 27 in Des Moines.

The statewide program is sponsored by the governor’s office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.

Each high school was invited to select its senior student(s) with the highest academic ranking, based on GPA for their first seven semesters. Students chosen for the award also could recognize their favorite/most influential teacher.

Ninety-nine percent of those students chosen also participate in extra-curricular school activites, with over 80 percent participating in sports.
