Over a Coke with the Chamber Director

There is a lot going on in Nevada this month!

This morning the Chamber sponsored the Master Grower Breakfast at Gates Hall. We honored Story County growers on their successful 2013 corn and bean crops. Following the breakfast, State Bank and Trust, Van Wall Equipment (Ryerson’s) and Key CoOp held their second annual Farm Family Expo.

On Friday, February 14 The Talent Factory will be holding a Valentine’s Day show featuring Preshia Paulding and Ron Semler at 7 pm. Admission is $7. Then on Saturday, February 15, Keith Huhn, Nevada’s favorite tenor, will grace the stage at The Talent Factory at 7 pm.

Peyton Dugger is organizing Freezin’ For a Reason 5K run/walk on Saturday, February 15 at 10 am at the Nevada High School Cafeteria. The entry fee is $30 and includes a t-shirt and a soup lunch after the race. All proceeds go to Mission Starfish School in Gonaives, Haiti. Farm Bureau will be hosting a retirement party for Larry Myers, an insurance agent with Farm Bureau for the better part of 40 years, on Thursday, February 20 at Quirk’s Grill and Bar from 4 to 5 pm. The public is invited. Jarod Pedersen and Tammy Oxley of Farm Bureau will be holding a Mix and Mingle at Quirk’s from 5 pm to 7 pm. Stop by and say hi to the Farm Bureau staff and enjoy some great food.

The Nevada Community Historical Society is presenting “A Taste of Wine and Murder” on Saturday, February 22 or Saturday, March 1 at 5 pm at the Dyer-Dowell House at 933 5th Street in Nevada. The cost is $30 per person and prepayment is appreciated. Call Michael at 515-382-6703 for reservations by February 14.

ISU Extension and Outreach of Story County will be holding “Money Talk” starting Thursday, February 27 through March 27 at the Green Hills Apartments Meeting Room in Ames. The cost is $45 and includes a 190-page book. Call the Extension office at 382-6551 to register.
