Police investigating hit and run at 10th and L

Nevada emergency personnel were called out last Wednesday (Sept. 25) for downed wires in the middle of Lincoln Highway (L Avenue) at the intersection of 10th Street.

According to Fire Chief Dana Wipperman, a semi tractor trailer clipped the utility pole that serves the overhead red stop light at that corner.

“We used our “Hot Stick” to determine the wire was live,” Wipperman said. Alliant Energy was called to the scene to replace the pole and restring the overhead electrical line and stop light.

The incident caused Lincoln Highway to be closed for most of the morning, as police blocked the area and the alleys within one block of the area.

Nevada Police Officer Matt Snyder has been investigating the incident and trying to determine who was driving the truck that hit the pole. Snyder said witnesses have described the vehicle as a “red semi truck with a front engine and a box style grain bin on back.”

Anyone with information that can help the Nevada Police determine the driver is asked to contact them at 515-382-4593.
