Area anglers will get a chance to test their fishing skills on Hickory Grove Lake this spring. Story County Conservation will host its Spring Fishing Tournament on April 26, from 7–11 a.m., at Hickory Grove Park. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the beach house (67382 250th St., Colo), located near the waterfront.
This event will be a two-person team tournament with cash prizes awarded to teams that catch the largest combined total length of largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie, plus cash prizes for the longest of each species.
Registration cost is $35 for teams who are registered by or have postmarked registration on April 18; after April 18 the registration fee is $45. Teams can register the day of the event. Individuals may register, but will be charged the full price.
Participants over the age of 16 must have a valid Iowa Fishing License and all 2014 Iowa Fishing Regulations will be followed. A park ranger will be present at the tournament. Only electric motors can be used on Hickory Grove Lake; canoes will be available for rental for a $5 fee.
