At a March 10 ceremony, nine Story County nonprofit organizations received grants from Story County Youth Philanthropists (SCYP).
The grants ranged from $500 to $1,000. Seven of the grants were awarded to organizations with countywide missions. Another will benefit libraries in four Story County communities.
The money for the grants comes primarily from the State of Iowa’s county endowment program, which is administered by Story County Community Foundation (SCCF).
“We set aside the SCYP grant funds to give students the opportunity to learn about and engage in philanthropy,” said Tillie Good, SCCF board member and advisor to SCYP.
SCYP board members are selected from high schools throughout Story County. The Volunteer Center of Story County provides a VISTA volunteer to work with the students selected for SCYP’s board.
