Successful Fire Prevention Education Month

Fire Prevention Week was held earlier this month, and some Nevada firefighters visited Central Elementary School during that week. Firefighters shared valuable information with students. They also visited Lil’ Cubs Pre-School and a couple local day care businesses at North Park with Smokey Bear. Smokey Bear was welcomed on the Central Elementary playground one day during lunchtime recess. On the Saturday of that week, the firefighters held their annual open house and talked to the kids about the importance of fire safety and prevention. They reminded kids to talk to their parents about checking their smoke detectors and having a family fire escape plan. During that week, Nevada’s firefighters visited with approximately 766 kids, teachers and day care providers. The entire cost to provide educational materials, helmets, activity books, stickers, pencils, etc., is funded by the Nevada Firefighters Inc., who feel the education of local youth in fire safety is very important.
