Weatherize your home for winter

To the editor:

Applications for winter weatherization are now being accepted by Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA). It might seem too nice out to be thinking about keeping warm air in our homes, but soon enough winter will be here. Simple steps like putting plastic over windows or sealing drafts in doors can make a big difference, both in keeping your home at a comfortable temperature and at lowering heating costs. For Story County residents who are low income, disabled, veterans, or seniors, contact the MICA office at 515-956-3333 for information about how Story County Coalition for Energy Efficiency’s trained volunteers can help you weatherize your home. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year, with the help of nearly 70 volunteers in 14 teams, we helped more than 40 families weatherize their homes before the temperatures turned cold. This year, we hope to reach even more people.
