Gary Lee Tolley

Gary Lee Tolley, 69, of Colo passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at his residence in Colo, Iowa.

Gary was born November 17, 1944 in Story City, Iowa to Noel Thompson Tolley and Leona Evelyn (Johnson) Tolley.

He grew up in McCallsburg and graduated from NESCO in 1963. Following school Gary joined the Army in 1965 and served 1 year in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged July 14, 1971. He married Ruth Harrelson in June of 1968 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. One child was born to this union Parry Tolley. Gary later married Pam Piekema on February 26, 1977 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City, Iowa. Kindra, Camron, and Breann were born to this union.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, camping, farming, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, going to county and state fairs, and International Harvester tractors. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg and American Legion Post #334 of McCallsburg. Gary worked at Sunstrand in Ames for 37 years starting in 1972 and retiring in 2009.

Those left to cherish his loving memories are his children Parry Tolley of Colo, Kindra (Martin) Smith of Colo, Camron (Bridgett) Tolley of North Liberty, and Breann (Justin) Cole of Ames; 5 grandchildren Trenton, Ava, Gabrielle, Rylee, and CJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Pam; 2 brothers David, and Noel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 5-7 pm at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Funeral service will be on Friday, March 7, 2014 beginning at 10:00 am at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Pastor Kathy Sandmann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery in Colo, Iowa.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of Gary and his family.
