Jay Junior Grismore

Jay Junior Grismore, son of the late Lester Jay and Pequo (Garten) Grismore, was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Wayne County, IA. He passed away Dec. 11, 2013 in Nevada, IA, at the age of 83, while at Story County Long Term Care.

He enlisted in the Army in 1954, serving in the 86th Infantry. He later worked as superintendent for E.M. Duesenberg Construction for 30 years, and later for himself for several more years. After retirement, he opened Jay & Marge’s Westside Tap in Allerton, IA.

His first marriage was to Patricia McCarty. He later married Marge Pierce in 1982.

He is survived by his son Jay Junior (Cindy) Grismore and his daughter Belinda (Randy) Jay, both of Nevada, IA, and his youngest daughter, Mary Rupe of Altoona, IA, and daughter-in-law Pam (Nelson) Grismore of Morrison, Ill. He is also survived by step-children, Frank (Mary) Fayer of Albion, IA; Doug Pierce of LeGrand, IA; and Laura (Richard) Devick of Albion, IA, and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include sisters, Maxine McCarty of West Plains, Missouri and Shirley Schreffler of Mercer, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Nelson (Pam) Grismore, his daughter Kimberly, his sister Christine Grismore (Crawford) Davis, brothers Eugene and Frank Grismore, two infant sisters, brothers-in-law Gilbert McCarty and Fred H. Schreffler.

In 2004, Jay met his youngest daughter, Mary Rupe, who has brought the family great joy. He will be fondly remembered by friends and family for his caring heart, great sense of humor and entertaining stories. He loved to travel, fish, gamble and spend time with his family.
