Keith Harlan Christy, 90, of Nevada, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 at First United Methodist Church, 1036 Seventh St. Nevada. Pastor Chris Waddle will officiate.

Keith was born in Story County on Feb. 3, 1923. His parents were Jesse & Elizabeth (Bessie) Christy. He grew up near Hickory Grove and attended the one room schoolhouse. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1941. In the fall of 1941 he attended Simpson College until the events of Pearl Harbor, after which he enlisted in the US Navy. He served for three years in San Diego, Calif. as a ship’s storekeep.

In May of 1942 he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Laura Forbes. They were married until her death in 1994. Together they had three children, Scott (Gloria) Christy of Johnson, Rhonda (Larry) Dussault of Brighton, Colo., and Lyn (Blair) A’Hearn of Cedar Rapids.

Keith remarried in 1995 to Phyllis Eubank Schuler and they shared nine happy years together, traveling all around the world and playing lots of golf in Harlingen, Texas. He sorrowfully lost her in 2004. Her children, Nancy Bear, Dean, Gary & Lynn Schuler remained close to Keith and family.

A farmer for many years, he began his career as a tank wagon salesman with Central Iowa Farm Service. He loved driving his truck and visiting with the farmers. He retired from Farm Service after 32 years of dedicated service.

Keith was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a deacon. He was an avid golfer and member of Indian Creek Country Club. He was proud of his service with Story County Civil Defense Sheriff’s Auxiliary.

He is survived by his children; grandchildren, Mike (Sarah) Gelormino, Justin (Amy) Christy, Libby A’Hearn (Brian Gilmore), Laura (Mike) Freyman, Leah A’Hearn; and great-grandchildren, Maya, Jonathan, Madeline, Vincent, Veronica and soon to be born baby Freyman.
