Kevin Michael Johnson [father of Lacey Blue Johnson, 2006 NHS graduate], age 62, of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away September 24, 2013, in his home. Kevin was born May 31, 1951, in Willmar, MN. He grew up in that area and attended high school in Waseca. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was an electrician by trade. He lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul most of his life, but was a resident of Nevada for a brief time.
Kevin struggled with addiction, which made it hard for him to maintain relationships; but family and friends never stopped loving him. He was a music lover who played guitar by ear. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, and a good cup of coffee. Kevin was a confirmed Lutheran who celebrated spirituality in nature. He took pleasure in the great outdoors, often on a bike or fishing on Minnesota’s lakes. He was a charming & compassionate person with a great sense of humor.
Those who will remember and miss him with tears & smiles include daughter Lacey & her mother Mindy of Ames; his two daughters Shalom & Tina of Colorado, their 10 children & their mother Debra; his sister Marion, brother Joel, nieces and nephews; and special friends Randy & Deb Young. Kevin was preceded in death by parents Jesse & Mildred Johnson, sister Sandra Sclaure Wilf, and brothers Richard & William.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, along Forest Lake, MN, with Rev. Marion Brewster officiating. Kevin’s cremains will be buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. His daughter Lacey plans to dedicate a bench to him along the Mississippi River where she enjoyed sitting with her Dad, watching the “ships go by.” Condolences may be left online at Kevin’s guestbook:
