Sister Jeanne Marie Roche, R.S.M., age 82, of Johnston and formerly of Colo, Iowa, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colo, with burial following in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Born March 23, 1932, on the home farm north of Colo, Iowa, Jeanne was the daughter of Frank Martin and Frances Josephine (Balloun) Roche. She graduated from Colo High School in 1949, then furthered her education at AIB in Des Moines. Jeanne earned her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE, and her master’s degree from Marquette University in Marquette, WI.
She entered Sisters of Mercy of the Americas on September 8, 1954, and celebrated 60 years as a Sister. She taught in Kansas City, MO; Omaha, NE; Greeley, CO; Independence, MO; and at All Saints in Des Moines.
Sister Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Arlene Jamison; two infant brothers and one infant sister.
Survivors include a brother, Dan (Fern) Roche of Glendale, AZ; several nieces and nephews; four great-nieces; as well as the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Omaha, NE.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada was entrusted with the care of Sister Jeanne and her family. Memorials in Sister Jeanne’s name may be directed to Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Colo.
