Wendell V. “Bud” Strum, 73, of Nevada, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. A Celebration of Bud’s Life was held Wednesday, August 28, in the First Christian Church, 250 West E Avenue in Nevada, with Pastor Anjeanette Perkins officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Memory Gardens north of Nevada.

Bud was born on February 25, 1940, in McCallsburg, to Wendell Curtis and Viola Avonell (Johnson) Strum. He was a 1958 graduate of Nevada High School. Bud served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years. On January 2, 1993, he married Dolores Ann Smith at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Bud retired in 2000 from the USDA in Ames. He was an avid writer and enjoyed wood carving.

Bud is survived by his wife Dolores of Nevada; two sons Rusty (Stacey) Strum of Melbourne, FL and Randy (Martha) Strum of Gautier, Mississippi; a daughter Carmen (Mark) Endacott of Rolling Meadows, IL; step-daughter Jennifer (Chris) Etter of Nevada; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; two brothers Stanley (Kathy) Strum and Paul (Paula) Strum, all of Nevada; two sisters Glenda (Joe) Wise of Prior Lake, MN and Sue (John) Young of Phoenix; and former mother-in-law, Ornie Mae Burrell of Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter Samantha Opperman and two grandchildren, Caitlyn and Carter Opperman, on October 5, 2005; two sisters, Rebecca Sue in 1952 and Wanda Valline on November 2, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Bud.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada was entrusted with the care of Bud and his family.
