It’s time to say ‘thanks’

Thank you.

As we come to an end of the year 2013, it is time, once again, to share our gratitude for the wonderful community of Nevada. I am overwhelmed when I reflect on all the help that has been given this past year to the families that I work with.

To begin with, our annual school supply give-away was a huge success. The donations that were provided by many people, including all of our churches, helped to put a smile on the children’s faces the first day of school.

The generosity continued through community donations and the staff at Parks & Recreation during the Thanksgiving holiday. I was able to deliver 250 Thanksgiving dinners, as well as other food to help out those in need.

The Backpack Buddy program continues to grow as it has increased to 50 children per week. Success of this program would not be possible without the wonderful volunteers, who commit their time by going to pick up supplies from the Food Bank of Iowa, packaging it and delivering it to the elementary school every week. Monetary donations to this program have also been very appreciated. The Junior Rotarians have organized a fun and creative way to give to our children through the “Chuck a Duck” program at the basketball games.

The Angel Tree program has also been a huge success as we have been able to provide for over 350 children. Thank you so much for your generous support! I get to see, first hand, the children and families that this program benefits during the holiday season, and I know it is very appreciated.

I would also like to thank everyone for your generous donations to the Student Assistance Program. These donations allow me to help families in so many ways that include food, rent, car problems, scholarships for extra-curricular activities, medical expenses, utilities, etc. The volunteer services of Harmony Clothing Closet and Food at First also continue to provide for many.

I know sometimes you don’t get to see or know the people you are helping, but I do, and I would truly like to say thank you for your ongoing support!
