Linda Wright, great-granddaughter of former resident Adeline Nicholas, sits at Nicholas’ desk in the Evergreen Lane house and headquarters of the Nevada Historical Society. The photo was taken this past Thursday to coincide with the date a letter was written to a relative in 1920. Adeline Nicholas was born in 1877 and married John S. Roberts in 1894. She lived most of her life in the area around West Bend and died in Fort Dodge in 1963. She took one trip to Washington to visit her sister, Pearl. Nicholas was raised by a farmer and also married to a farmer. The couple raised three children and lost two others in infancy. If you would like to embrace history, join the Nevada Historical Society. There will be an annual membership meeting held at the Evergreen Lane estate (1204 H Ave.). The meeting will begin this Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. (Photo by Brett Van Waus)
