8th football wraps up strong season

The Nevada 8th grade football team finished an outstanding season with two more wins.

On Oct. 17, they took on Saydel and won by a score of 35-0. Once again the defense dominated and shutout their third straight opponent. The defense also scored their fourth touchdown of the season on a Brendan Sellberg 25-yard fumble recovery. The running attack was led by Sellberg’s 86 yards and 2 TD’s. James Coltrain chipped in 39 yards rushing, Luke Fevold added 32 yards, and Preston Cattanach had 27 yards and 1 TD. Quarterback Cam Shill also threw 1 touchdown pass to Emilio Saldana to cap the scoring. Nevada also played a fifth quarter B game and were led by Jack West’s 49 yards rushing and 2 TD’s.

The Cubs finished their season against North Polk on Oct. 21 and won by a score of 46-7. The Cubs jumped on the Comets early, leading 30-0 after the 1st quarter, and cruised to the easy win from there. Nevada’s effective ground game was led by Sellberg’s 121 yards and 2 TD’s, Cattanach’s 45 yards and 1 TD, West’s 30 yards, and Coltrain’s 18 yards. The passing game was also efficient as Shill completed 3 of 4 passes for 68 yards and 2 TD’s. Saldana and Rodrigo Perez each had a touchdown catch.

The A Team finished the season with a 5-1 record, while the B Team finished 3-1. The Cubs scored 50 touchdowns on 1884 yards rushing and 758 yards passing, outscoring their opponents 323-75 for the year. Congratulations on a great season!
