C-N girls place in seven events at Baxter

BAXTER – The Colo-Nesco girls’ track team placed in seven events and the Royal boys ended up placing six times at the Raider Coed Invitational April 15 at Baxter.

The Colo-Nesco girls picked up one silver and bronze medal apiece on the evening. The Royals totaled 28 points as a team to finish ninth in the team standings.

Devin Francis had the best finish of the meet for the Royal girls. Francis placed second in the discus with a throw of 106 feet, 3.5 inches, coming in behind only the 109-10 by West Marshall’s Jennifer Davis.

Angela Brinkman was the most consistent performer for the Royals. Brinkman won the bronze in the 400-meter hurdles, took fourth in both the 100 hurdles and high jump and also helped the Royal shuttle hurdle team to a fourth-place finish.

In the 400 hurdles Brinkman ran a 1:16.41. Ballard’s Rachel Watters (1:13.57) and Saydel’s Emma Bowman (1:15.87) were the only individuals out of 14 runners in the event to top Brinkman’s time.

In the 100 hurdles Brinkman crossed the finish line in :17.79. North Polk’s Sybbie Sears (:16.65) and Lilly Lomica (:17.07) and Bowman (:17.19) were the only runners out of 17 varsity competitors to beat Brinkman in the race.

Brinkman’s top jump in the high jump was 4-6. In the shuttle hurdle, she teamed with Hallie Riese, Kassie Robinson and Brandi Erickson to run a 1:17.11.

Caitlan Clark placed in two events for Colo-Nesco. She was sixth in the 200 and part of the Royals’ sixth-place sprint medley team.

In the 200 Clark ran a time of :28.50 to edge teammate Shayla Dean (:28.57) for the final scored place in the event. Erickson, Rachel Vincent and Makaelyn Neuendorf joined up with Clark to run a time of 2:09.65 in the sprint medley.

South Hardin won the girls’ team title with 119 points and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter was second with a score of 80.

In the boys’ competition Colo-Nesco was last out of eight teams with nine points. CMB easily won the boys’ team title with 164 points and North Polk was second with a score of 113.

Clayton Bryan placed in two events and Steven Cutler turned in one top-six performance for Colo-Nesco individually.

Bryan came in fifth in the 400 low hurdles with a time of 1:01.88 and he was sixth in the open 400 after crossing the finish line in :54.40. Cutler took sixth in the 1,600 with a 5:03.87 showing.

In relay events, Colo-Nesco placed fifth in the shuttle hurdle and 4 X 100 and sixth in the 4 X 200.

Bryan joined up with Brady Stoeffler, Grant Tiarks and Noah Gibbons to run a 1:08.15 in the shuttle hurdle. In the 4 X 100, Gibbons, Bryan, Tiarks and Christian Reischauer teamed to run a :47.82.

The Royal 4 X 200 team of Garret Tiarks, Casy Angell, Gibbons and Reischauer ran a time of 1:40.83.
