C-N sputters offensively against Northeast Hamilton

Trojans blank Royals, 44-0

BLAIRSBURG – Offensive woes and a poor defensive start combined for disaster for the Colo-Nesco football team in a 44-0 loss to Northeast Hamilton Friday in Blairsburg.

The Royals only mustered 71 yards of offense, suffering their first shutout loss in 8-man play. Colo-Nesco also struggled defensively in the first half, giving up 36 points on its way to falling to 0-3 on the season.

“We never gave up, despite the fact that the game didn’t turn out at all like like we were expecting,” Colo-Nesco head coach Josh Nessa said. “Our hats off to a Northeast Hamilton team that made the most of playing with a very small squad. We are going to have to do some soul searching to determine how we will proceed with the rest of the season. We may have to make some changes to make our offense quicker-hitting and also stiffen up on defense. There is still a lot of football to be played.”

Tyler Smith had touchdown runs of 65 and seven yards, and Austin Smith caught a 35-yard scoring reception from Logan Seiser for Northeast Hamilton in the first half. Gabe Rapp added two short touchdown runs for the Trojans in the opening two quarters.

Smith scored his third touchdown of the game on a 10-yard run in the third quarter to complete the scoring.

Dacian Wilson led Colo-Nesco with eight tackles on defense. Casy Angell and Christian Rieschauer made six stops apiece and Clayton Bryan, Alex Griffin, Isaiah Texeira and Grant Tiarks tacked on five apiece.

Griffin also had two stops behind the line and Bryan and Tiarks tallied one tackle for loss apiece.

On offense, Evan Webb ran for 21 yards on two carries and he also caught two passes for 17 yards. Taylor Hill picked up 16 yards rushing on 18 carries, Blake Stevens ran for nine yards, Bryan picked up eight yards on the ground and Reischauer caught one pass for seven yards.

Hill also threw for 24 yards after completing 3 of 10 passes for 24 yards with two interceptions.

Colo-Nesco will take on Ankeny Christian Academy (0-2) in an 8-man District 6 game this Friday. The game will start at 7 p.m. in Colo-Nesco
