COLO – The Colo-Nesco volleyball team had a rough outing on senior night Oct. 17 as the Royals were swept by South Hardin in a non-conference match.
Colo-Nesco was defeated by scores of 25-16 and 25-15 in the first two sets. With their backs against the wall, the Royals couldn’t get anything going in the third set, losing 25-9 to drop the match and fall to 12-12 on the season.
For the match Colo-Nesco only had 14 kills against nine errors in 65 attacks. The Royals were 36 of 40 serving with three aces and finished with four blocks.
Middle blocker Caitlyn Riese had five kills, eight digs, two blocks and one ace for the Royals in the loss. Madison Farren finished with three kills, three digs and one ace; Hannah Buseman had two kills, four digs and one block and Sam Riese tallied two kills and one block.
Kylie Sarver led Colo-Nesco in digs with 10. McKenna Farren handed out six assists and Brittnee Packer dished out five.
DUNKERTON – Colo-Nesco overcame a slow start to get past Dunkerton in five sets Oct. 14 at Dunkerton.
The Royals suffered a 25-16 loss in the opening set. They came back to take the next two sets by solid margins of 25-18 and 25-13, but Dunkerton pulled off a 25-23 squeaker in set four to force a rally game.
In the rally game Colo-Nesco regained the edge and dominated, winning 15-8 to close out the match. With the win the Royals finished 6-2 in the Iowa Star Conference.
Colo-Nesco had 35 kills and 20 errors in 114 attacks. The Royals picked up 21 blocks and went 94 of 104 serving with eight aces.
Caitlyn Riese dominated at middle blocker and Madison Farren had a big match at outside hitter for the Royals.
Riese had 15 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks. She also went an impressive 26 of 27 serving with two aces.
Farren totaled seven kills, 11 digs and four blocks. She also was 11 of 13 serving.
Hannah Buseman stepped up with eight digs, six kills one block and one ace. Sam Riese totaled five kills, two blocks and two aces, McKenna Farren went 24 of 24 serving with three aces and added 22 assists and nine digs and Brittnee Packer finished with 11 digs and nine assists.
Kylie Sarver also had 11 digs and Shayla Dean added five. Tabitha Halferty came through with three blocks and one kill, Melanie Van Loon had two blocks and one kill and Brandi Erickson chipped in a pair of blocks.
