STORY CITY – The Nevada boys’ golf team came in fourth out of six teams at the Roland-Story Invitational May 8 in Story City.
The Cubs shot a 169 over nine holes at the Riverbend Golf Course to finish two strokes ahead of Roland-Story and nine in front of North Polk. Prairie City-Monroe won with a team round of 152, South Hamilton was a close second with a 153 and Hampton-Dumont shot a 159 to place third.
“We are getting closer to putting together a solid team performance,” Nevada head coach Ryan Brown said. “For the most part we were striking the ball more consistently and giving ourselves chances to score. The guys really need to focus down the stretch. They each need to find a way to shave two or three strokes to be in contention at sectionals.”
Nevada showed great consistency at Story City. Its top three performers all shot the same score and the final scored Cub was just one stroke in back of that group.
Zach Hansen, Braydon Otto and Cole Gidel each carded a 42 for Nevada. Brady Schill picked up the other counted score with a round of 43.
Final team scores (nine holes): 1. PCM 152, 2. South Hamilton 153, 3. Hampton-Dumont 159, 4. Nevada 169, 5. Roland-Story 171, 6. North Polk 178.
