Cub boys, girls both place fifth at Nevada Invite

NEVADA – The Nevada boys’ track team picked up a pair of relay victories and the Cub girls took home three silver medals at the Nevada Coed Invitational April 10 at Cub Stadium.

Both teams finished in fifth place in the team standings. The Cub boys were fifth out of seven teams with 70 points and the girls scored 48 points in a six-team field.

In the boys’ competition Nevada turned in a pair of outstanding sprint relay performances, winning both the 4 X 200 and 4 X 100 events. The Cubs also picked up one individual gold medal in a field event.

Peyton Sharp, Erik Fevold, Traye Pelzer and Chase Dobson formed both relay teams. Their winning time of one minute, 34.09 seconds in the 4 X 200 was .75 seconds faster than Carroll’s runner-up time and the quartet finished the 4 X 100 in :45.10 to again defeat the Tigers (:45.60) for the gold.

Fevold was also responsible for Nevada’s lone win in an individual event.

Fevold took first in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, nine inches. That jump was just enough to beat out Carroll’s Colton Thompson’s 18-8.75 for the gold.

Dobson and Sharp gave Nevada respective second and third-place times of :23.44 and :23.57 in the 200 dash. Dobson also took third in the 100 with a time of :11.46.

Nevada added another bronze in the shuttle hurdle relay as Pelzer, Sharp and Fevold were joined by Ross Mitchell to produce a time of 1:05.51.

In the girls’ competition Nevada stood out in the high jump, 100 and 4 X 100.

In the high jump Sophia Wilson gave the Cubs a silver medal with a jump of 5-0. Alyssa Boyd was right behind her in third place as she cleared 4-10.

Lindsey Haley and Kelsey Haley both finished in the top five for Nevada in the 100. Lindsey earned the silver medal with a time of :13.57 and Kelsey clocked in at :13.93 to place fifth.

The Haley sisters, Caroline Goecke and Alli Fey teamed to take second in the 4 X 100. The Cub team ran a time of :54.49.

Nevada added a bronze medal in the 4 X 800. Amaris Hornbuckle, Nicole Dewell, Carrie Satre and Caitlin Dewell teamed up to run an 11:50.63.
