Cub wrestlers go 2-1 at Colfax quadrangular

TAMA – The Nevada wrestling team suffered through a winless day at the South Tama Dual Tournament Saturday in Tama.

The Cubs went 0-4 to fall to 3-7 in dual competition on the season. They were defeated by South Tama, Dubuque Wahlert, Ankeny Centennial and Vinton-Shellsburg.

South Tama defeated Nevada by a 51-30 score. The Cubs four pins and one forfeit in a losing effort.

Wayne Beard, Erik Tanner, Peyton Sharp and Mark Trullinger were the four Cubs to earn a fall against South Tama. Beard pinned Hunter Filloon in one minute, 13 seconds at 106 pounds, Tanner took down Lansin Lacina in 1:46 at 126, Sharp defeated Ruben Garcia in 55 seconds at 138 and Trullinger stuck Garrett Hoskey in 3:14 at 285.

James Cheek picked up Nevada’s forfeit at 113.

Nevada suffered a 54-21 loss at the hands of Dubuque Wahlert. The Cubs picked up one pin, one victory by decision and a pair of forfeits.

Sharp earned the Cub fall as he ousted Wahlert’s Charlie Smith in 5:35. Evan Rix picked up the decision as he edged Matt Wiggington by a 5-4 score at 120 for the Cubs.

Cheek and Trullinger received the forfeits for Nevada versus Wahlert.

Ankeny Centennial handed Nevada a 60-12 loss. Rix, Traye Pelzer and Kody Harrelson accounted for all three Nevada victories on the mat against the Jaguars.

Rix scored a 15-0 technical fall triumph over the Jaguars’ Trey Rouse at 113. Pelzer earned a 10-6 decision over Ethan Babcock at 145 and Harrelson picked up an 8-0 major decision over Josh Johnson at 170.

Nevada was dealt another 54-21 loss on the day by Vinton-Shellsburg. The Cubs prevailed by fall twice and decision once, and they also received a forfeit.

Tanner and Trullinger were the two Nevada grapplers to score a fall against Vinton-Shellsburg. Tanner pinned Navon Dunlap in 1:32 and Trullinger stuck Steve Henry in just 32 seconds.

Pelzer picked up the other win on the mat for Nevada as he defeated Vinton-Shellsburg’s Tevin Mull by a 6-1 score. Harrelson picked up the forfeit win for the Cubs.

COLFAX – Nevada posted a 2-1 record in a quadrangular meet with Colfax-Mingo, Pella and South Hamilton Dec. 12 at Colfax.

The Cubs defeated Colfax-Mingo and South Hamilton and came up short versus Pella as their dual record moved to 3-3 on the season.

Nevada whipped Colfax-Mingo by a 57-16 score. The Cubs earned four pins and one victory by decision and they also received five forfeits.

Evan Rix, Peyton Sharp, Trice Logsdon and Mark Trullinger were the four Cubs to pick up a fall again Colfax-Mingo. Rix stuck Colfax-Mingo’s Adam Teed in one minute flat at 113 pounds, Sharp took care of Richard Blom in 1:19 at 138, Logsdon scored his pin in 3:33 over MacCauley Mosher at 195 and Trullinger defeated Brandon Byal in 3:44 at 285.

Traye Pelzer won by a 5-3 decision over Jaeden Sokoloski at 145 for Nevada’s other victory on the mat. Calvin Schneider (132 pounds), Cody Weier (152); Lucas Schneider (160), Kody Harrelson (170) and Alex Peebles (182) received a forfeit against the Tigerhawks.

Nevada fell to Pella by a 48-33 score. The Cubs picked up two pins, one victory by decision and three forfeits against the Little Dutch.

Erik Tanner stuck Pella’s Zine Stough in 1:45 at 126 and Harrelson pinned Tate Petty in 3:13 for Nevada’s two falls. Pelzer defeated Joseph Blauw by a 9-2 decision for the other Cub victory on the mat.

Rix (120), Trullinger and James Cheek (113) were the three Cubs to get forfeits versus Pella.

Nevada defeated South Hamilton by a 45-27 score. The Cubs picked up three pins, one victory by decision and four forfeits against the Hawks.

Wayne Beard (113) pinned South Hamilton’s Corey Clabaugh in 1:13, Harrelson took care of Andrew Norman in 1:43 and Peebles whipped Noah Lutter in 1:06 for Nevada’s three victories by fall against South Hamilton. Tanner added an 8-6 win over Charlie Reiter for Nevada’s other victory in competition.

Cheek (106), Rix (120), Weier and Logsdon were the four Cubs to pick up a forfeit versus the Hawks.
