Cubs go 1-2 on senior night

STORY CITY – The Nevada wrestling team suffered three losses in a quadrangular meet with Roland-Story, Eagle Grove and Prairie City-Monroe Monday at Story City.

The Cubs hung tough with Eagle Grove, but they didn’t have the horses to stick with Roland-Story or PCM, finishing the dual season at 5-21.

Eagle Grove defeated Nevada by a slim 39-35 margin. The Cubs totaled four pins and one technical fall and they also received a forfeit against the Eagles.

Erik Tanner pinned Eagle Grove’s Parker Slagle in one minute, 27 seconds at 126 and Calvin Schneider followed with a fall in 2:45 over the Eagles’ Lincoln Miller at 132. Lucas Schneider picked up a pin in 3:31 over Eagle Grove’s Matt Fransen at 152 and Kody Harrelson scored the other Cub fall by sticking Austin Burgwin in 27 seconds at 160.

Evan Rix delivered a 15-0 technical fall against Eagle Grove’s Braden Cahalan at 113 and Wayne Beard received a forfeit at 106 for the other Cub victories. Nevada was hurt by forfeits against Eagle Grove as the Cubs gave up four.

Nevada fell to Roland-Story by a 58-18 margin. The Cubs picked up two pins and received one forfeit against the Norsemen.

Harrelson and Traye Pelzer produced the two pins for Nevada. Harrelson stuck Roland-Story’s Charles Fournier in 1:09 and Pelzer pinned William Clark in 3:34 at 145.

Rix received a forfeit at 113 to account for the rest of Nevada’s points against the Norse.

The Cubs were handed a 63-9 loss by PCM. Beard pinned the Mustangs’ Chace Palm in 4:44 and Pelzer pulled off an 8-6 decision over Ian Reed.

COLFAX – Nevada went 1-3 with a victory over Van Meter at the Tigerhawk Duals Saturday in Colfax.

The Cubs defeated Van Meter by a 42-21 score and came up short against Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, Colfax-Mingo and Southeast Warren.

The Cubs picked up three pins and benefitted from four forfeits to pull off the victory over Van Meter.

Erik Tanner, Calvin Schneider and Traye Pelzer scored the falls for Nevada. Tanner whipped the Bulldogs’ Bray Watson in 49 seconds at 126 pounds, Schneider disposed of Brady Edwards in 47 seconds at 132 and Pelzer stuck Colton Golwitzer in 3:00 at 152.

James Cheek (113), Peyton Sharp (145), Lucas Schneider (160) and Trice Logsdon (182) picked up the Cub forfeits.

Nevada suffered a close 42-34 loss to CMB.

The Cubs picked up two pins and one major decision versus the Raiders. The remainder of their points came on forfeits.

Tanner and Sharp were the two Cubs to get pins against CMB. Tanner whipped the Raiders’ Beau Iske in just 24 seconds; Sharp moved to 138 and stuck Even Bianchi in 54 seconds.

Evan Rix pulled off a 13-1 major decision over CMB’s Jake Hennick at 120 for Nevada’s other victory on the mat. Cheek (106), Wayne Beard (113) and Pelzer (145) picked up the Cub forfeits.

The Cubs lost another close one to Colfax-Mingo. They were on the short end of a 33-24 decision versus the Tigerhawks.

Rix (113) and Pelzer (145) each picked up a pin for Nevada’s only points on the mat against Colfax-Mingo. Rix downed Adam Teed in 26 seconds and Pelzer took care of Will Dunsberger in 29 seconds.

Tanner and Calvin Schneider picked up the forfeits for Nevada.

Southeast Warren handed Nevada a 51-12 setback. The Cubs’ only points came off forfeits.

Rix (113) and Trice Logsdon (182) received the two forfeits for Nevada.

SAYDEL – The Nevada wrestling team was only able to score two victories against Saydel in a 66-9 loss to the Eagles Friday in a makeup match at Saydel.

Evan Rix and Erik Tanner were the two victorious Cubs.

Rix pinned Saydel’s Justin Roepsch in four minutes at 113 pounds. Tanner pulled off a 2-0 victory over the Eagles’ Oscar Ruiz at 126.

The loss put the Cubs’ Heart of Iowa Conference dual record at 3-6.

NEVADA – Nevada finished 1-2 in a quadrangular match with Colfax-Mingo, North Polk and Bondurant-Farrar Jan. 28 on senior night at the Nevada High School Field House.

The Cubs defeated Colfax-Mingo by a 35-25 score. Nevada earned picked two pins and one technical fall against the Tigerhawks.

Senior Evan Rix stuck Colfax-Mingo’s Adam Teed in just 39 seconds at 113 pounds and Kody Harrelson whipped Cody Brodka in 1:17 at 160 for Nevada. Traye Pelzer picked up the technical fall over Colfax-Mingo’s Will Dunsberger at 145.

Calvin Schneider (132), Cody Weier (152) and Trice Logsdon (170) all won by forfeit against Colfax-Mingo.

Nevada fell just short against North Polk, losing 33-31 to its Heart of Iowa Conference rivals.

Rix opened the dual by topping North Polk’s Noah Fields by an 11-3 major decision. Erik Tanner pinned the Comets’ Isacc Sharp in 45 seconds at 126 and Calvin Schneider followed with a fall over North Polk’s Cody Meiners in 4:33 at 132.

Peyton Sharp added a forfeit win at 138 and Pelzer picked up a 5-4 decision over North Polk’s Chandler Smith. Kody Harrelson earned the biggest Cub victory when he knocked off 2013 state qualifier Landon Schuessler by a 6-4 decision at 160.

Logsdon also emerged victorious at 182 for Nevada. Logsdon picked up a 5-2 decision over North Polk’s Josh Krehbeil at 182.

Logsdon’s victory put Nevada up by a 31-15 score. In the final four matches there was one double forfeit, and the Cubs gave up two forfeits and a pin.

That gave North Polk just enough to steal a win from Nevada.

The Cubs’ didn’t have much luck against Bondurant-Farrar, losing by a 59-12 score. Rix delivered a pin in 1:23 over Bondurant-Farrar’s Trace Harken at 113 and Bernardo Pantoja stuck the Bluejays’ Conner Ruggles in 1:59 at 160 for the lone Nevada victories.
