Hershey’s youth track meet takes place in Ames on May 14

On Wednesday, May 14, the Ames Parks and Recreation Department will host the Hershey’s Youth Track and Field Meet at the Ames High School track. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until approximately 8:30 p.m., and is open to boys and girls ages 9–14 (age as of Dec. 31, 2014). Events will include the 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes, along with an 800 and 1600 meter run and a 4 x 100 meter relay. Field events include the standing long jump and softball throw. The first place finisher in each event will qualify for the state meet, to be held in Marshalltown on Saturday, June 14.

This event is free to all participants, but preregistration is required. Forms are available at the Community Center (515 Clark Ave.) or online at www.amesparkrec.org. Registration forms must be turned in by Monday, May 12. A birth certificate must accompany the registration for proof of age. Forms can be mailed in, faxed in or dropped off at the Community Center.
