Junior High Athletes to well at State Pentathlon

The boys’ Purple team won the team title by almost 1,000 points. All five team members were in the top nine: Brendan Sellberg (first), Luke Fevold (second), Matt Chitty (seventh), Daniel Kellen (eighth) and Luke Merfeld (ninth). Eighteen junior high athletes competed at the State Pentathlon in Washington, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 27. Each athlete earned points based on the quality of their performance in five events: 100 meter hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and 400 meter dash. The athletes were coached by Lori Stephenson, who is pictured with the winning boys and their plaque.
