Nevada boys win four silver medals at Ballard Classic

HUXLEY – The Nevada boys’ track team produced five medals at the Ballard Classic April 17 in Huxley.

The Cubs won four silver medals and one bronze. They also placed fourth in one event, scoring 54 points to edge Adel-Desoto-Minburn by three points for sixth out of eight teams in Class A.

Chase Dobson won two individual silver medals and he also helped Nevada take second in the distance medley and third in the 4 X 100-meter relay.

Dobson ran a time of :11.14 in the 100 to edge out Ballard’s Tyson Pritchard (:11.19) for the silver medal in the event. Dallas Center-Grimes’ Chaz Chambers won the tight race with a time of :11.10.

In the 200 Dobson clocked in at :23.01. Carlisle’s Tyler Erb won in :22.83.

Peyton Sharp took fifth in both the 100 and 200 for Nevada with respective times of :11.23 and :23.38.

The Cub medley team of Dobson, Sharp Traye Pelzer and Lucas Markey ran a time of 3:52.94 to beat DCG’s 3:55.49 for runner-up honors. ADM won in 3:45.57.

Nevada also took third in the 4 X 100. Sharp, Erik Fevold, Pelzer and Dobson teamed to run a :45.56.

Fevold turned in Nevada’s top showing in field events as he won the silver in the long jump. Fevold’s best jump was 19 feet, 9.5 inches.

Fevold also placed fifth in the 400 low hurdles with a time of 1:01.51 and sixth in the 110 highs with a :17.46 showing. Joel Olson added a fifth-place time of 2:17.03 in the 800 and Stephen Dolley was sixth in the discus with a throw of 112.11.

The Cub 4 X 800 relay team of Olson, Leighton Memmer, Riley Huhn and Markey clocked in at 9:01.29 to place fourth. The Cub 4 X 200 team of Tavrie Ferguson, Tony Avalos, Huhn and Dolley ran a 1:45.16 and the 4 X 400 unit of Ferguson, Bertrand Joliet, Huhn and Pelzer clocked in at 4:07.87; both teams ended up placing sixth.

DCG won the team championship with 104 points. Carlisle came in second with a score of 90.
