Nevada girls pick up nine medals at Cub Classic

NEVADA – The Nevada girls’ track team won one relay and totaled four runner-up performances at the Cub Classic May 6 at Cub Stadium.

Nevada totaled nine medals overall, scoring 82 points and place fourth out of six teams. The Cubs were just three points behind Ballard’s third-place score and they beat out Clarke’s fifth-place showing by three points.

Adel-Desoto-Minburn won the team championship with 167 points and Carlisle compiled 122 points to place second.

The 4 X 200-meter relay was Nevada’s most successful event. The Cub team of Kelsey Haley, Caroline Goecke, Abby Stephenson and Lindsey Haley ran a time of one minute, 52.46 seconds to beat Ballard by five seconds for the gold medal.

The Cubs added a runner-up finish in both the 4 X 800 and 4 X 100 events and they took third in the sprint medley.

Amaris Hornbuckle, Carrie Satre, Nicole Dewell and Caitlin Dewell ran the 4 X 800 in 11:30.35 to trail only Ballard’s 10:39.86 showing. In the 4 X 100, the Haley sisters, Goecke and Stephenson teamed up again to run a :53.32 and come in just behind ADM’s winning time of :52.99.

That same quartet also ran the sprint medley in 1:57.34. Carlisle won the race in 1:55.51 and ADM took second with a time of 1:56.57.

Individually, Nevada produced the second and third-place performers in both the discus and 100.

In the discus Abby Tupper won the silver with a throw of 88-9 and Tiffany Latshaw took the bronze with a toss of 87-10. ADM’s Erica Baier won with a throw of 102-10.

Lindsey Haley took second in the 100 with a :13.89 showing and Kelsey was right behind at :13.93. ADM’s Torrie Hook won in :13.55.

Alyssa Boyd added a third-place jump of 4-8 in the high jump for Nevada.
