Nevada girls win two events at Baxter

BAXTER – The Nevada girls’ track team picked up six medals at the Raider Relays Monday in Baxter.

The Cubs won two events and took second in four. They placed fourth out of six teams with 87 points.

Nevada dominated the high jump as Sophia Wilson and Alyssa Boyd took first and second. Wilson cleared five feet for the winning jump and Boyd peaked with a jump of 4-10 to beat Collins-Maxwell-Baxter’s Maddy Poage by two inches for second.

The Cubs also took first in the sprint medley relay. The team of Kelsey Haley, Caroline Goecke, Jordan McKinney and Lindsey Haley ran a time of two minutes, 0.41 seconds to beat Bondurant-Farrar by nearly two seconds for the win.

That same quartet also took second in the 4 X 100-meter relay with a time of :53.07. CMB won in :53.01 and Bondurant-Farrar came in third with a time of :54.25.

Amaris Hornbuckle, Carrie Satre, Nicole Dewell and Caitlin Dewell combined to post a runner-up time of 11:42.46 in the 4 X 800. Saydel easily won the race with a 10:42.86 showing.

Caitlin Dewell gave Nevada an individual silver medal in the 1,500.

Dewell clocked in at 5:37.92 to edge Colfax-Mingo’s Iva Moore (5:38.16) for second. The Tigerhawks’ Dakota Hostetter won the event in 5:28.04.

Nevada added six fourth-place finishes on the day.

Tiffany Latshaw took fourth in the discus with a throw of 85-3, Boyd earned the same place in the 100 hurdles with a time of :18.49, Nicole Dewell took fourth in the 800 with a 2:54.06 showing and Brooke Kelley ran a 1:23.78 in the 400 hurdles. The same group of Cubs that ran the 4 X 800 completed the 4 X 200 in 2:11.44 and Hornbuckle, Satre and Nicole Dewell teamed with Kelley to run a fourth-place time of 5:05.76 in the 4 X 400.
