GREENFIELD – The Nevada girls’ soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 victory over Nodaway Valley/Adair-Casey/West Central Valley Friday in Greenfield.
The Cubs dominated defensively. Sweeper Mara Rhodes, charger Kaylee Kruschwitz and fullbacks Raegan Saunders and Lexi Kruschwitz teamed up to allow just one shot by Nodaway Valley/AC/WCV all game.
On offense Nevada fired off 13 shots. Sydney See and Erin Sellberg scored one goal apiece and Abby Stephenson dished out one assist.
Stephenson did double duty on the day as she ran in two relay events at the state track meet before heading over to Greenfield to help the Cubs – ranked No. 3 in Class 1A – improve to 15-0.
ANKENY – Nevada kept on rolling against tough competition May 22 as the Cubs traveled to Ankeny and knocked off the Hawks, 2-1.
Nevada, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, took down the No. 8 team in 2A for its seventh victory in as many tries over a team currently ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Abby Stephenson scored one goal and she also assisted on the other Cub goal netted by Jessica Helton. Nevada ended up with eight shots on offense.
The Cub defense played a great game. Keeper Clara Sporrer only had to make three saves to help Nevada hold on for the victory.
