No. 3 Royal girls win in a romp

BLAIRSBURG – The Colo-Nesco girls’ basketball team easily kept its undefeated record intact Friday as the Royals traveled to Blairsburg and used a big first half to cruise to a 56-18 victory.

Colo-Nesco – ranked No. 3 in Class 1A – jumped out to a huge 18-point lead after one quarter. By halftime the Royals led by 28, and that allowed them to use the second half to mop things up as they improved to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the ISC.

The Royals overcame a 3 of 17 shooting night from 3-point range with great defense as they racked up 18 steals. Colo-Nesco also had good ball movement overall on offense, finishing with 16 assists on 23 field goals.

Shayla Dean turned in another strong all-around night to lead Colo-Nesco. The all-state guard had 17 points, nine steals and six assists.

Caitlyn Riese gave Colo-Nesco 11 points and four rebounds inside. Madison Farren added eight points, four rebounds and two steals; Leah Vincent hit two 3-pointers to finish with six points; Melanie Van Loon and Hannah Buseman each scored four points and Makaelyn Neuendorf and Tabitha Halferty chipped in three points apiece.
