Royal boys run win streak to five

LATIMER – It took all of one quarter for the Colo-Nesco boys’ basketball team to put away a struggling CAL squad Friday at Latimer.

The Royals scored 28 points by the end of the first quarter, which is more than CAL scored the entire game, in a 77-25 Colo-Nesco rout.

Colo-Nesco led by 20 points after the first quarter. By halftime, they had a staggering 59-17 lead.

Royal head coach Pat Wynja emptied his bench and took his foot off the accelerator in the second half. The merciful tactic prevented the game from getting too out of hand as Colo-Nesco coasted to its fifth-straight win, improving to 8-4 overall and 7-2 in the Iowa Star Conference.

The Royals shot 55 percent from the field and made 5 of 11 3-pointers. Colo-Nesco also had 23 assists on 34 field goals and totaled 37 rebounds – 13 offensive – and 17 steals.

Christian Reischauer had 18 points, Brady Stoeffler put up 16, Cole Ozbun finished with 10 and Tanner Clatt netted nine to lead a balanced Royal attack.
