Royal girls place fifth at Dave Tapps Invitational

VAN METER – The Colo-Nesco girls’ track team turned in its best performance of the season and the Royal boys turned in seven top-six performances at the Dave Tapps Coed Invitational May 1 in Van Meter.

The Colo-Nesco girls won one event, took third in another and placed fourth in five, scoring 66.5 points to place fifth out of 12 scores teams. The Royals edged Van Meter by half a point for fifth and they were 13 points behind Martensdale St. Marys’ fourth-place score.

Devin Francis brought home the gold for the Royal girls in the discus. Francis’ best throw of 102 feet, seven inches beat out the 100-3 throw by Earlham’s Kennedy Morris for the event victory.

Francis also took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 31-5. Teammate Sam Riese came in fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot with respective throws of 89-3 and 31-4.

On the track Colo-Nesco won a bronze medal in the sprint medley relay. Hallie Riese, Makaelyn Neuendorf, Caitlan Clark and Shayla Dean teamed to run a 2:06.41 and trail only Earlham’s 2:04.46 and Des Moines Christian’s 2:05.40.

Hallie came in fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of :18.77. Grace Stalzer took fourth in the 3,000 after crossing the finish line in 14:11.71.

The Colo-Nesco 4 X 800 team of Madisen Lundquist, Jillian Gibbons, Adyson Saunders and Madalyn Nelson also took fourth in 14:02.94. Hallie Riese, Kassie Robinson, Angela Brinkman and Brandi Erickson joined forces to place fourth in the shuttle hurdle with a 1:19.90 showing.

In the distance medley, Hallie Riese, Robinson, Erickson and Stephanie Norris combined to run a 5:41.37 and place sixth. Caitlan Clark took sixth in the 200 with a :29.47 showing.

Earlham won the girls’ team title with 160.5 points and Des Moines Christian came in second with a score of 123.

In the boys’ competition Madrid easily won with 181.3 points, and Van Meter and Earlham came in second and third with respective scores of 113 and 100.

Colo-Nesco placed eighth out of 13 teams in the boys’ competition with 38 points. The Royal boys picked up one gold and bronze medal apiece and they also added five more top-six performances.

Christian Reischauer took first in the 400 low hurdles for the Colo-Nesco boys. Reischauer’s time of 1:00.39 beat out the 1:01.93 by Madrid’s Keaton Adams for first in the event.

Steven Cutler picked up the bronze Colo-Nesco in the 1,600. Cutler’s time of 5:04.85 trailed only the 4:57.88 by Madrid’s Josh Henriksen and 4:59.81 run by Van Meter’s James Orf.

Reischauer added a fifth-place time in the open 400 with a :55.63 showing. Clayton Bryan was fifth in the 400 lows and tied for sixth in the open 400 for the Royals with respective times of 1:03.97 and :55.90.

The Colo-Nesco boys’ also took fourth in the shuttle hurdle and fifth in the 4 X 400.

Reischauer, Bryan, Brady Stoeffler and Grant Tiarks combined to run a 1:08.79 in the shuttle hurdle. Garret Tiarks teamed with Grant, Casy Angell and Evan Webb to run a 3:58.81 in the 4 X 400.
