Royal softball team lose to Wildcats at home

MCCALLSBURG – The Colo-Nesco softball team never got on track versus Janesville June 25 in McCallsburg as the Royals gave up a big third inning and only tallied two hits all game in a 10-0 loss.

After a scoreless first inning, Colo-Nesco gave up two runs in the second. The Royals then allowed five runs in the third and they never recovered, falling to 6-12 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Star Conference.

Mackenna Ruffcorn took the loss for Colo-Nesco. Ruffcorn allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with two walks and no strikeouts in four innings.

Sam Riese gave up three runs on one hit with four walks and no strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Josie Leuthje threw the other 2/3 of an inning for Colo-Nesco and she only allowed one hit and didn’t walk a batter.

Chelsea Henze and Kassie Robinson both singled once for Colo-Nesco’s only hits. Madison Farren also drew a walk for the Royals.

Allison Hesse went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBI and Morgan Charley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to pace Janesville offensively. Shelby Schnurstein was the winning Wildcats pitcher as she struck out five and walked only one in six innings of shutout ball.
