Royals’ Farren given all-state honors by IGCA

Colo-Nesco senior outfielder Madison Farren was named all-state honorable mention in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in 2014.

Farren hit .405 with a .608 slugging average, eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 29 RBI and 18 runs in 2014. Those numbers marked a big improvement from her 2013 totals of a .241 batting average with one double, nine runs and 11 RBI.

Farren also made 24 putouts and just one error in the field. Her efforts helped Colo-Nesco go from 7-16 a year ago to 9-15 this summer.

The IGCA 1A first team was made up of: Akron-Westfield’s Kayla Tindall and Dana Hedlund; Newell Fonda’s Renee Maneman; Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton’s Rachel Smith and Kennedy Madsen; Charter Oak-Ute’s Ashley Ewoldt and Emilee Meadows; Martensdale St. Marys’ Nicole Shutt and Jamie Jordan; New London’s Morgan Christner; Marquette Catholic’s Bella Berthel and Blake Banowetz; Murray’s Kate Patton; Twin Cedars’ Brittney Roby; Lynnville-Sully’s Madison Rasmusson and Kasiah Ehresman; AGWSR’s Madison Fryslie and Ashley Sicard; Kee Lansing’s Kendra Cooper and Courtney Cooper; Wayne’s Breanna Fortune and Southeast Webster-Grand’s Jossie Ferrari.

Akron-Westfield coach Todd Colt was named the 1A Coach of the Year by the IGCA after helping the Westerners repeat as state champions.
