Royals come up short against Trojans

ZEARING – The Colo-Nesco baseball team was unable to keep pace with Northeast Hamilton in a high-scoring 15-6 loss to the Trojans June 18 at Zearing.

The Royals hung tough early. They gave up seven runs over the first two innings, but scored three times in the first and twice in the second to stay within striking distance.

Northeast Hamilton put up two runs in the third, but the Royals answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth and they were still hanging around, down 9-6, going into the fifth. But the wheels came off for Colo-Nesco down the stretch as the Royals failed to score over the final three innings and the Trojans put up three runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to pull away.

Colo-Nesco ended up with eight hits in the loss.

Brady Stoeffler, Grant Tiarks and Mark Frohwein were each 2-for-3 in a losing effort for the Royals. Stoeffler tallied one walk, steal, run and RBI apiece; Tiarks doubled, scored once, stole a base and knocked in an impressive four runs and Frohwein scored one run.

Taylor Hill singled, walked and scored and Steven Cutler was 1-for-4 for Colo-Nesco. Matthew Hill walked twice and stole a base and Payton Larson and Wayne Beard each scored one run.

Stoeffler was the losing pitcher. He allowed seven earned runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Christian Reischauer gave up eight runs – just four earned – on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. Cutler threw 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

Logan Seiser picked up the win for Northeast Hamilton as he went the distance and struck out 10 with five walks. Seiser also went 3-for-4 with three runs and RBI apiece to pace the Trojans on offense and Gabe Rapp was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and a pair of RBI.
