OGDEN – The Colo-Nesco softball team opened the season with a 6-2 non-conference loss to Ogden May 28 in Ogden.
The Royals were in control early, scoring once in the first and third innings to take a 2-1 lead. But Ogden scored two runs in the third to tie the score and went on top with a run in the fourth.
The Bulldogs added two insurance runs in the sixth. Ogden pitcher Jordan Poock shut out Colo-Nesco over the final four innings to seal the deal for the Bulldogs.
Kylie Sarver was 2-for-4 with a double and a run and Shayla Dean finished 2-for-4 with a run, steal and RBI to pace Colo-Nesco’s seven-hit attack at the plate. Hannah Buseman singled in a run, Mackenna Ruffcorn doubled and walked and McKenna Farren hit one single.
Ruffcorn was the losing pitcher. She threw all six innings for the Royals and allowed four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Poock struck out two and walked one for the complete-game victory for Ogden. Kayden Lindahl went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one steal and a pair of runs and RBI apiece to lead Ogden offensively.
