Royals whip Redhawks, Eagles

TRAER – The Colo-Nesco boys’ basketball team picked up its second victory in as many days with a 69-52 victory over North Tama in Iowa Star Conference play Friday at Traer.

Having just defeated Ankeny Christian Academy in a non-conference game the night before, the Royals overcame a slow start to complete a season sweep of North Tama and improve to 11-4 overall and 9-2 in the ISC.

Colo-Nesco trailed 17-13 after one quarter against North Tama. The Royals rallied to take a 30-26 lead at the half, but North Tama remained close in the third quarter as Colo-Nesco took a five-point lead into the final period.

In the fourth quarter Colo-Nesco turned in its best stretch of the game. The Royals outscored the Redhawks by 12 points over the final eight minutes to finish with a comfortable margin of victory.

Colo-Nesco shot 49 percent from the field and had 19 assists on 27 field goals. The Royals also outrebounded the Redhawks by a 33-27 margin.

Tanner Clatt led four Royal players scoring in double figures with 19 points. Clatt also had five rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Cole Ozbun tallied 15 points, two assists, two steals and one block for the Royals. Brady Stoeffler added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists and Christian Reischauer came through with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Grant Tiarks tacked on six points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals and Casy Angell added four points and five rebounds for the Royals.

Taylor Dinsdale had 20 points, five rebounds and three assists and Paul Kaufmann added 17 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists for North Tama.

ANKENY – Colo-Nesco bounced back from a loss at Dunkerton to earn a 59-47 non-conference road win over Ankeny Christian Academy Jan. 23 in Ankeny.

A big fourth quarter proved to be the difference for Colo-Nesco. The Royals trailed 34-33 going into the final period, but they put up 26 points over the final eight minutes to claim a big road win two days after suffering a 60-38 setback at Dunkerton.

Colo-Nesco shot 47 percent from the field and held ACA to 36-percent shooting. The Royals also won the rebounding battle by a significant 32-21 margin.

Christian Reischauer turned in a great all-around game to lead Colo-Nesco. Reischauer had 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Tanner Clatt provided Colo-Nesco with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Brady Stoeffler ended up with eight points, four rebounds and two assists; Grant Tiarks contributed seven points and three rebounds; Cole Ozbun finished with six points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals and Casy Angell chipped in six points and three rebounds.

Bradley Fisher had 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks for Ankeny Christian Academy. J.J. Waddle added 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds and Daniel Strong totaled 10 points and four steals.

DUNKERTON – Colo-Nesco couldn’t buy a bucket in a 60-38 Iowa Star Conference loss at Dunkerton Jan. 21.

The Royals shot just 25 percent from the field and made only 7 of 16 free throws on the night. The shooting woes kept them from ever making things interesting as Dunkerton led by nine after one quarter and 17 at the half.

Colo-Nesco did do well defending the perimeter as Dunkerton was 0 of 11 from 3-point range.

Brady Stoeffler had 14 points and two assists and Cole Ozbun and Christian Reischauer each chimed in with six points and three rebounds. Ozbun also had one assist and Reischauer added two assists, two steals and one block.

Casy Angell pulled down nine rebounds and scored three points and Tanner Clatt finished with four points, three rebounds and one assist for the Royals.

Kory Kuenstling scored 21 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the field and he added seven rebounds, six assists and one block to lead Dunkerton. Trevor Jacobsen added 10 points and four rebounds and Nick Anderson scored nine points for the Raiders.
