JEWELL – The Nevada wrestling team placed six wrestlers at the Heart of Iowa Conference tournament in Jewell Saturday.
Evan Rix and Kody Harrelson both took third for the Cubs and Erik Tanner, Peyton Sharp, Traye Pelzer and Wayne Beard also placed. As a team, Nevada took eighth out of 10 schools with 72 points.
Rix went 3-1 at 113 pounds.
In the opening round Rix pinned Roland-Story’s Dakota Rusher in one minute, six seconds. He suffered a loss by fall to Saydel’s Justin Roepsch in the semifinals, but came back to pin South Hamilton’s Cory Clabaugh in 3:26 during the consolation semifinals.
The win over Clabaugh pitted Rix against North Polk’s Austin Smith in the third-place match. Rix quickly disposed of Smith, pinning him in 36 seconds to improve to 23-11 on the season.
Harrelson was 3-1 at 170 for Nevada.
Harrelson stuck North Polk’s Graham Hoshaw in 3:17 during the opening round, then lost by fall to Saydel’s Jake Sherman. In the consolation semifinals Harrelson pinned Greene County’s Hunter Ruth in 1:25 to reach the third-place match, where he defeated Gilbert’s Chase Whetstone by a 14-9 decision to raise his record to 21-18.
Tanner came in fourth at 126, with a 2-2 record.
Tanner pinned Collins-Maxwell-Baxter’s Beau Iske in 1:45, then lost by an 11-2 major decision to Greene County’s Dylan Forkner. In the consolation semifinals, Tanner pinned South Hamilton’s Charlie Reiter in 1:13 and ended up losing the third-place match by fall to Roland-Story’s Parker Witthuhn.
Pelzer and Sharp both came in fifth on the day with 2-2 records for Nevada.
Pelzer received a first round bye, then lost by a 4-1 decision to Prairie City-Monroe’s Ian Reed at 145. In the consolation first round, Pelzer pulled off a 5-3 win over North Polk’s Chandler Smith, but he lost by fall to Gilbert’s Adam Davis in the consolation semifinals.
Pelzer scored a forfeit win over Saydel’s Brody Harrison in the fifth-place match.
Sharp competed at 138. He received a first-round bye, then suffered a 12-6 loss to Saydel’s Grant Sherman.
In the consolation first round, Sharp pinned Roland-Story’s Colton Osmundson in 1:13, but he lost by fall to South Hamilton’s Luke Peters in the consolation semifinals. Sharp bounced back in the fifth-place match to pin Colfax-Mingo’s Jaeden Sokoloski in 1:41.
Beard came in sixth at 106 for Nevada. His lone victory was a pin over PCM’s Chace Palm in 2:53 during the consolation first round.
Greene County won the HOIC team championship with 168.5 points. PCM was a close second with 167 points and Gilbert wasn’t too far behind in third with a score of 161.

JEFFERSON – Nevada didn’t have the depth to hang with Greene County Jan. 21 in Jefferson as the Cubs dropped a 48-21 dual to the Rams.
Nevada only received one victory on the mat. Both teams benefitted from three forfeits and the Rams ended up with four pins and two victories by decision.
Alex Peebles picked up Nevada’s victory in competition. He edged Greene County’s Hunter Ruth by a 4-3 decision at 170 pounds.
Trice Logsdon (182), Wayne Beard (106) and Evan Rix (113) received forfeits for Nevada.
